Starting in about one week, 8th grade students will be allowed to take home their Chromebooks! Don't worry 7th graders- you will be able to take them home soon too! However, you must have parent permission to do so. Parents, please sign the permisison forms, and instruct your student to return the form to his/her 1st period teacher. As our school year gets started, Mr. Evans, our AVID site coordinator, surveyed his students to find out what drives them. Take a look at this wall to find out what motivates our students to do their best! It's these motivations that keep us motivated too!

We invite our new to Buford/Charlottesville City School students to come meet other new students, take a tour of the building, and get any and all questions you may have answered before school begins the following week! I can not express how excited we are to welcome a new group of 7th graders to Buford! This morning we met with the rising 7th graders to tell them about Buford and begin the process of helping them select elective courses for next year. We presented information and a video about the elective options, as well as provided an Elective Request Worksheet. Students will get this form today to take home and complete (and get signed by a parent!) and we expect for them to return it by Friday February 27th to their homeroom teacher or their guidance counselor. Attached is a video of today's presentation with a great deal of information about Buford, as well as an elective request sheet and 2 application forms- the AVID application and the Garden Aide application. Please contact us if you have any questions!
Some families have had questions regarding Unleveled English 9. I recommend contacting your child's high school counselor with specific questions, and I am posting resources I have received from Ms. Horne about the course here- I hope you will find them helpful!
This week our 7th graders watched a video about registering for classes for their 8th grade year. They were also given a registration worksheet that they are to use to indicate the electives they would like to take next year. This worksheet is to be taken home and signed by their parent. Please have your child return it to the guidance office by Friday, January 30th. Find the video and registration sheet below! Feel free to contact us with any questions you may have!
When you receive your 8th Grader's 2nd quarter report card, you will find a 2015-2016 CHS Course Registration Worksheet. We encourage you to plan with your child and complete this worksheet together. Please log into Parent Portal and look at the Course Registration link- when you click on each subject, the course your child's teacher has recommended for him/her should be highlighted at the top of the list. Help your child choose electives that will be appropriate fun for your child! If you need an additional copy of the Course Registration Worksheet, download the first document below. If you are interested in overriding one of your child's teacher recommendations, complete and print the Parent Override Form. He/she should bring it with them to the meeting with their CHS counselor on February 19th at Buford.
Registration for courses for the 2015-2016 school year is quickly approaching! This video was created to help our 8th grade students learn more about selecting the courses that are right for them, as well as teach them about CHS, GPAs, Credits, etc. Students will view this video and will discuss course selection during their Teacher Advisory period. They will officially select courses with their CHS counselor in mid-February. Please feel free to view the video, discuss course selection with your student, and contact Ms. Kingsley if you have further questions! CHS is hosting a Curriculum Fair at the Carver Rec Center on Tuesday January 13th, from 5:30-7:30 PM. We highly encourage you to attend so you can learn about the courses and clubs that CHS has to offer!!
