CAYIP (Community Attention Youth Internship Program) is currently accepting applications for the 2018 CAYIP Summer Session!  Please note, there are some exciting changes this year!
 
PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
  • June 25th – Aug. 3th  (6 weeks total)
  • The first week is “CAYIP ACADEMY” where teens will complete Orientation and workplace readiness training which is facilitated by Community Attention staff and guest speakers.
  • Interns are expected to work 21 hours a week at their internship site for the remaining 5 weeks.
  • Interns earn a stipend based on their attendance and performance.  Interns will earn the equivalent of $8.00 an hour!
  • Interns are assigned a CAYIP Counselor to assist with job coaching, evaluating, and delivering feedback. They are available for consultation throughout the program. CAYIP Counselors will meet weekly, face-to-face with the intern and the internship site supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Applicants MUST be 14-21 years old
  • Must be a city resident to qualify for the City Council Scholarship.
  • There is a small scholarship for County youth.
  • Selection criteria include: completeness and timeliness of the CAYIP application (link for the application can be found at the bottom of this post), quality of essay, performance in a face-to-face interview, and availability.  References are encouraged.

We hope that your youth will appreciate the opportunity for career exploration, developing workplace readiness skills, and connecting to positive adults. We want to grow each teen’s awareness of their strengths and contributions to the community by assisting local businesses, organizations, and schools.  Completed applications can be scanned to Misty Graves at graves@charlottesville.org, fax to 434-970-3577, or dropped off in person at 907 E. Jefferson Street.
