Hello students and families! The counselors are back in the office and ready to assist you.
Unfortunately, our phone system was updated over the summer so if you called and left a message before August 1st, we didn't get a chance to receive it. Please call again or email us if you need assistance. We look forward to hearing from you!

If you are an 8th grader interested in taking PE over the summer (virtual or face to face), please follow these links to complete the registration process. This information needs to be turned in to CHS.
VIRTUAL COURSE REGISTRATION FORM for Summer PE FACE TO FACE REGISTRATION FORM for Summer PE Online Registration Directions YOU MUST ATTEND A MANDATORY FACE TO FACE ORIENTATION: Students must attend an orientation session before beginning a virtual course. Student must bring their own computing device for orientation. For current Buford 8th grade students: Thursday, May 26 from 3:15-4:30 @ Buford Middle School OR: Monday, June 13 from 9am-1pm @ CHS At this time there are no summer PE options for rising 7th or 8th grade Buford students. We are eager to inform you that Buford Middle School will be able to offer a section of Early Morning Physical Education for 7th grader students for the 2016-2017 school year. Early morning PE is designed to allow students to have extra time in their schedule for electives. All PE and Health SOLs are still covered in class and students are required to dress and participate at this earlier class time.
Early morning PE meets on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 7:30-8:15 am in the Buford Gymnasium. Unfortunately, at this time, families must provide their own transportation. If you would like for your student to enroll in the Early morning PE course, please contact Mrs. Heath via email at: [email protected] and let her know what additional elective (listed below) your child would like to take. Possible elective options include: Choose 2:
OR Choose 1: Introduction to Brass Introduction to Woodwinds Art AVID (must have applied and been accepted) Spanish Latin Chorus French As we continue to work on the student schedules for next year, we are asking that all elective request changes are submitted by May 15th. This helps us ensure that we are offering enough sections of electives to fulfill all of the student requests. Elective change requests may not be able to be honored after this date. Please contact us with any questions!
As some of you may have heard from your student, 7th graders have been working on developing their 6 year academic/career plans. This is something that is required by the state for 7th graders to complete- but it is just a plan!! It is not a binding document- it's just an exercise to help them understand the course offerings that will be available to them as they finish Buford and enter the high school. For those of you who want more information, feel free to watch this video (the same video that the students have viewed) and take a look at the 6 year plan document.
To our surprise, we have had so many rising 8th graders request Early Morning PE for next school year that we are unable to enroll rising 7th graders in this course. As you receive your course requests in the mail, we know you may be disappointed to not see Early Morning PE listed, but this is not an error. We apologize for this situation, but your child can look forward to enrolling in Early Morning PE to take an additional elective during the day as an 8th grade student. Thank you for your patience!
Please note, Inventions & Innovations is not a prerequisite for Engineering I. Students will be able to enroll in Engineering without having completed Inventions & Innovations. We'd like to extend a welcome to our rising 7th graders! We are so excited you will be joining us at Buford soon! It's that time of year where we begin to ask students and families to select the courses they would like to take. Check out our videos about the registration process, as well a quick video about the electives we offer. You can also click here to see our course registration worksheet (see page 3 for the worksheet for rising 7th graders!) It's that time of year again where we start to discuss course selection with our students! If you have questions about your rising 9th grade student, we encourage you to contact the high school. CHS counselors are coming over next week to meet individually with students to discuss their course selections. Click here for a copy of the CHS Course Registration Worksheet provided to all students. For our rising 7th and 8th graders, we are so excited to welcome you to a new year!! We have provided our rising 8th grade students with a course selection worksheet, and many of our students have already returned it. Click here for a copy of our Buford Course Registration Worksheet (rising 8th grade is page 2). We have also created a quick little video students and families can view about the registration process. Families can select their electives online if they want, but sometimes we understand a paper copy is the easiest way to go! And of course, if you have questions about the registration process, please let us know! You will get a copy of the courses your child requested later in the spring! Mrs. Heath and I took our show on the road this week! We are so excited to be presenting to our fellow Virginia School counselors at the VSCA conference in Hampton, VA!
For those who attend our presentation Friday morning and would like to see our presentation again or watch the videos we used again and again, click here for a link to our "Prezi-"ntation. Thanks for coming to watch us and best of luck with your Prezi endeavors! As the weather begins to change and the temperature drops, we often have many students get sick and have to stay home from school. One request we often receive is to collect work that your child is missing. Here are 2 recommendations you can follow for trying to receive make up for your student.
1. Have your child log into Canvas to see if there are any new assignments or activities posted. This will help your child stay current with what they missed in class. Hint- their log in is the same as how they log into their Chromebook! 2. After checking Canvas, contact your child's teacher directly via email (their email addresses are often [email protected].) If they haven't posted any assignments, they will be able to tell you what happened in class and make a plan for how to catch up. Once students return from being out sick, they should expect to turn in missed work within a few days. Also, we only recommend collect work from teachers if your child is out for 2 or more days- otherwise the student can collect missed assignments when they return. |
